NGC6979 –Central Veil Nebula

The Veil Nebula is the remnant of a supernova that exploded around 6,000 to 8,000 years ago. It is about 2,240 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. Here we see the central portion of the nebula, designated NGC6979, also called "Williamina Fleming's Triangular Wisp." North is toward the right. The eastern portion, NGC6992, the Network Nebula, can be seen here, and NGC6960, the western portion, or "Witch's Broom," is here.
