The first thing I made on the metal lathe was a new switch knob for a living room lamp. The original knob was a smooth ball that was difficult to operate. So we replaced it with a wire nut that remained for years. This new knob was turned from brass, and the shank was drilled and tapped 6-32 for the switch shaft. The knob end was knurled to provide a good grip.
