We spent a few days in March 2007 walking and measuring the land to determine the best sites for the house, the driveway, and the observatory.

Here are a few photos of the 800-foot driveway heading out, away from the house. We are standing in the loop at the end of the driveway, and the house is off to the right. The loop returns to the driveway where the green ribbon is tied to a tree. The driveway heads straight away from us, with the orange ribbons barely visible in the distance.

After about 300 feet, the driveway joins an old logging trail, and bears to the right. Here we have made the turn onto the trail, and are nearly halfway to the road.

The road is in sight about 150 feet ahead (in the summer, with leaves on the trees, we'd need to be even closer to see the road). Our land fronts on a cul-de-sac with three other lots, but in 2007 only one has a house on it. The topography is such that houses on the two adjoining lots will likely be built close to the road, so we'll truly be hidden in the woods.
